What is the Global Talent Visa?
If you are a leader in the fields of academia or research, arts and culture, or digital technology, you can apply to live and work in the UK on a Global Talent Visa. To be considered for entry under the Global Talent visa, you must normally seek endorsement from one of six endorsing bodies engaged by the UK Home Office or have won an eligible award.
The Global Talent Visa is divided into two categories, namely Exceptional Talent and Exceptional Promise.
What are the benefits of a Global Talent Visa?
The Global Talent Visa comes with less restrictions than other work-related visas such as the Skilled Worker Visa. If you are successful, you can:
- Freely change your job or set up as a freelancer or self-employed. The employer you work for does not need to hold a valid UK Sponsor Licence.
- An option to fast-track an application for Settlement (three years as opposed to the normal five years).
- Choose the length of your visa (up to five years).
- Can accept any salary and take sabbaticals or undertake secondary work or consultancy.
- Bring your spouse/partner and dependent children to the UK.
Who can provide endorsement for a Global Talent Visa?
Several different bodies can provide you with endorsement, depending on your field of expertise. Below is a list of bodies approved by the Home Office (note that this list is not exhaustive):
- Arts Council England for an arts and culture endorsement
- Tech Nation for a digital technology endorsement
- The Royal Society for natural and medical science endorsements
- The British Academy for humanities or social sciences endorsements
- The Royal Academy of Engineering for an engineering endorsement
- The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
- British Fashion Council (BFC)
- Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)
- Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT).
Can I switch to a Global Talent Visa?
If you are already living and working in the UK on another visa you may be able to switch to a Global Talent Visa if you have won an eligible award or have successfully gained endorsement from a body approved by the Home Office.
